Competitions and Prizes

There are a number of prizes and awards that are given at each ISHA meeting and other competitions running between meetings

These prizes include :

The ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award
The Roy-Somiya Award
The ISHA Best PhD Thesis Award

ISHA will publicise these awards in advance of the meeting and invite nominations. Sufficient time will be given for nominations to be made.

ISHA council will create sub-committees to view each nomination, who will work together to make a fair and balanced decision on the winner.

The local organising committee or ISHA council may wish to present other awards during the conference e.g. best poster, or researcher presentation awards – these will be presented at the conference and are at the discretion of the local hosts.

ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award
The ISHA Lifetime Achievement Award for a senior scientist by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate and a CV of the candidate. Candidates can nominate themselves.

Roy-Somiya Award
The Roy-Somiya Award for a scientist younger than 45 years of age, at the time of the conference, requires by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate, copies of the candidate's top 3 papers in peer-reviewed journals and/or corporate licensing of the technology, whether patented or not, and CV of the candidate. Candidates can nominate themselves.

ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award
The ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award requires a 1-page statement by the nominator as to why this person is a suitable candidate, date Ph.D. was awarded, impact of thesis in terms of first author papers published in peer-reviewed journals and/or corporate licensing of the technology, whether patented or not, and CV of the candidate. Candidates can nominate themselves.

Poster Prizes
Poster Prizes are an award for the top two posters as judged by a panel elected by either the ISHA council or the local committee (in consultation with the ISHA president). These prizes are ideally for postgraduate students who are attending the conference, rather than for academics. Winners will be honoured during the conference.

Best Science Image
This is a new category that is open to any scientist from anywhere in the world. Images can be submitted to info@isha.website at any time and the sub-committee will select the best image which may be from microscopy or other means that is the most outstanding (and relevant) to the ISHA community.

Most Pioneering Paper Award
This is a new category and is an award for the most significant paper published between ISHA meetings (the last and the next). This award will acknowledge work that opens up a new area of fundamental study or has the most notable impact for ISHA community. Winners will be honoured during the conference and entrants must be nominated or self nominated by the deadline prior the next ISHA meeting.

Best video to promote ISHA activities
This is a new category and is an award to acknowledge the best video and posted on the ISHA website by younger researchers to promote ISHA related activities. The videos are either general, covering the basics of ISHA science or more specific, explaining their own research activities.

Award Winning

Expert Team

A sub-committee of experts are assembled for each category

Prizes

Prizes are awarded at the ISHA meeting by the national ISHA hosts at the conference dinner
“I’m very honored to receive ISHA Best Ph.D. Thesis Award. I’m so happy and excited because this is my first experience for receiving such international award. My PhD thesis title is “Precise Synthesis of Crystalline Nanostructured Materials from Layered Silicates by Using Interlayer Modifications”. In my PhD thesis, I synthesized several kinds of crystalline silicate materials including zeolites, and microporous materials from layered silicates obtained hydrothermally. The most important point of my PhD study is judiciously selected post treatments including non-covalent and covalent modifications for interlayer surfaces of layered silicates.

I really appreciate my supervisor, Professor Kazuyuki Kuroda in Waseda university when I was a graduate student. He always encouraged me and taught everything related to researches. He showed me marvelous inorganic synthetic chemistries. Lastly, I hope I can contribute to hydrothermal and solvothermal chemistries in my research life.
